That seems to be the case for everyone. After that initial expiration date, it should be every 2 years.

    Thanking my references

Thanks for the insight! I did end up just sending a nice email. I know it can get a bit tricky with stuff like this, but hopefully someday I can take them to lunch or something.

    Thanking my references

I wanted to do something to thank my 4 references, but wanted an opinion from people familiar with this process. I currently work for the state government, and all 4 references also work for the state. Does anyone think there would be an ethical issue with sending them a small gift card or the...

Everything you wanted to know about the CA-Survey/Seismic Civil PE Exams

Keep trying numbers until it says they're not available anymore. :) I believe the most recents ones are around 93,000 or so.

AEI Seismic Manual / Practice Exams for Sale!

Recently took and passed my Seismic exam - selling my AEI manual and practice exams. Both are marked up/highlighted/problems completed/tabbed up, but the notes etc. are very neat and easy to read and the books themselves are in great condition. Might be useful to you! Original bundle was...

    January 2021 Results

That's true - I agree more people will be doing re-takes this quarter, but they do have 3 months to do that... Speculation doesn't get us anywhere, though. :) We will just have to wait and see, unfortunately!

    January 2021 Results

For the last few months, at least, it looks like they've been getting results out quickly. Hopefully that's a good indication that the January results will be here within the next week. Of course, they could always release results much later than that. Fingers crossed that's not the case! I...

Agreed! There are some questions that could lead you in the completely wrong direction. Sometimes I would find myself doing the wrong part of a problem and have to go back and start over. Surveys is much more straightforward.

I also took the Seismic exam for the second time on Saturday. I took it for the first time in August. Funny you mention it - I'm not sure if I was more prepared this time around, or if the questions were written better. Maybe a combination of both. Hoping for the best for everyone!

    Specific Seismic Question

OK - here’s what I received as clarification from Dr. Ibrahim: Basically, if you use Fv table to get SD1 value (aka it is not given or calculated through ground motion hazard analysis), AND you have Site Class = D AND S1 > or = 0.20, then you will use the conservative equations (1.5 etc.) to...

    Specific Seismic Question

This is 11.4.8 in 7-16, which is the current code for the exam, from Special Civil Engineering Examinations Reference List - Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures American Society of Civil Engineers, ASCE/SEI 7-16

    Specific Seismic Question

He's correct - 11.4.8: I am waiting for an response from Dr. Ibrahim (AEI manual author) to clarify. From what I've read, it seems as though there are two conditions: 1. SD1 is given or calculated via a ground motion hazard analysis (you don't have to use Fv table to find SD1). 2. Site class...

    Specific Seismic Question

I agree, I couldn't find it in ASCE 7 - however, both the AEI and Hiner manuals include this "conservative" method of finding Cs. Not quite sure where it comes from!

    Specific Seismic Question

Thank you for this reply! I was kind of thinking that it was used whenever the Fv from the table was used, but then it seems like you'd hardly ever have to use the "normal" formulas for Cs. With these requirements in mind, it seems like the only time you would use the "normal" formulas for Cs...

    Specific Seismic Question

Hi all! I have a question about the seismic response coefficient, Cs, which I've been looking for the answer to for a while but can't seem to figure it out. In the manual that I'm using, it says that Cs should be "conservatively calculated" (see below) if S1 >= 0.2 and Site Class is D...

Do you need a bankers box for notes

I believe this is mainly to make sure that you don't have any materials stowed away that you're not allowed to have. A box is a bit more easy to search than a tote bag.
