    funny pic thread

Yup... the pavers around the bollard aren't removed.

    Pouring concrete against construction joint.

I assumed he meant slab-on-grade when he wrote "base slab", which is why I called out flatwork. If he's talking about a suspended slab with shoring, then he *really* needs to understand the requirements for removing shoring and reshoring; ACI 318M-11 reads: and there is commentary relating to...

    Pouring concrete against construction joint.

I don't have the ACI reference handy, but you can strip flatwork as soon as doing so doesn't cause the concrete to deform. Hours or days, not weeks.

How I Passed The PE with One Simple but Unknown Tip

Google words like "multiple choice", "psychometrics", "key-balanced", etc., and you'll see there's more to this discussion than anal retentiveness.

Everything was open, including unfortunately, the remote parking lots. It was packed.

How I Passed The PE with One Simple but Unknown Tip

This topic came up before... http://engineerboards.com/index.php?showtopic=19589 If VTmePE07 is right (and I think he is), it's only the first step in passing without knowing the material. But I won't tell... no matter how many views this post gets.

    Ski Season 2014/2015

I was at Winter Park on 28 December. Too many bumps for my fun. But the glades were kind of neat.

I won't lie to my kids about Santa

This is why parents lie to their children... a four-year-old doesn't have the mental capacity to understand things and put them in the right context. It's the same reason we lie to 95-year-olds in nursing homes.

Here's another idea: Buy him the shoes for Christmas and then you can match the cleats after. If it's a road bike, get road shoes. Fit is important, but he can always exchange them after he tries them on. This is a big advantage to using a Local Bike Shop (LBS) rather than the internet...

Judge orders parents to pay for daughters college

I thought it was the *******... as in, "If you want to take the rectal temperature of the U.S., put the thermometer in the middle of Trenton."

Judge orders parents to pay for daughters college

This makes a little more sense... oh, and NJ stinks!

OK... this wasn't so bad: http://www.strava.com/activities/206670081 75 miles with my 15-year-old. The saddle sores *were* mostly healed from last weekend, but not as bad this time. My new saddle doesn't seem to be a good fit, as I've *never* had a problem with my old bike.

Sunday was an official ass whoopin'... http://www.strava.com/activities/203878608 I've never suffered this much on a bike, but I'm proud that I didn't quit, even though I was within a mile of my house at the 70-mile mark. Next Sunday is a 75-mile ride with my son for cancer research. I'll...

    Help w problem

You got it! "TOTAL distance traveled is 0.5 miles" And for what it's worth, this is an FE type problem - you won't see it on the PE exam.

    Help w problem

I think that's a bad idea, both here and in general... while you can often take a shortcut by neglecting small factors, it's a bad habit if you don't understand each and every one made, and the impact to process. What's tripping you up here? There are only two preliminary steps to this...
