Ever crossed paths with a killer?

I had a boss one time that shot and killed her husband (years before). Apparently he was beating her for a long time, and she finally had enough. Guy got what he deserved as far as I'm concerned, but I'm a heartless ******* with no patience for wife-beaters.

    Kids of EB

My dad resents that remark. :) Actually, funny story. Dad is a family therapist (he teaches parent how to be parents), and gives a fair amount of talks to various groups of parents (PTA's, churches, that sort of thing) around the SC-NC-GA area. In these talks he uses anecdotal stories about...

    Georgia Residents

I remember. I'm originally from the upstate. I was amazed when I moved to TN how much difference overall there was in what I paid in state and local taxes (much less here), considering the cost of living is considered pretty even between the two areas.

    Georgia Residents

True, although I would like to point out that the real reason that Al Gore was never president is not because of Florida, but because he failed to win his home state. Had he won TN's measly 11 electoral votes, he would have won. For some reason, the media at the time tended to gloss over that.

    Georgia Residents

Ours is 9.25% here, and its higher in some other counties. Of course, we don't have state income tax or personal property tax. :P

    The United States of Shame

I can see that. My local county government made the New York Times a couple of years back, thanks in part to a county commissioner that went by the name "Lumpy". linky :true:

    The United States of Shame

I haven't looked at the list (blocked at work), but I would guess TN has that distinction.

What to do about Somali pirates

My guess would be to head into the Red Sea and on to the Suez Canal to the Med. Seems like a good way to go if you were doing the circumnavigate thing, instead of going around africa. Except for the whole pirate issue, of course.

    An unfortunate name

I guy I knew in middle / high school was named John Harold Long. I don't know if its true or not, but his parents once told us that they were planning on using his two grandfathers first names, Harold and Richard, until they realized that in the Last name first presentation, that could be...

    Pharmacy or Computer Engineering?

It depends. My two buddies that are pharmacists both went to Med school for four years. They have "Doctor of Pharmacy" (PharmD) degrees. I think you can just be a registered Pharmacist, or something like that, with just a special masters. I'm not really sure what the difference is, other than...

How do you feel about 2011?

Personally, I feel pretty good about it, at least until the end of Sept (when my current contract is up). Overall, however, I don't see the economy improving much in general this year. All the direct employees where I work just got hit with a two year pay freeze, which has got them...

Things kids born in 2011 won't know

I actually had it as a game on the last phone I had. I haven't looked for it for the new phone. I need to do that.

I moved back home for about two weeks, does that count? I graduated in December, and stayed home for Christmas before moving a couple states away to start my new job.

:plusone: As a dolphins fan, there was no possible good outcome for the Pats-Jets game. I'm not a big fan of the Squealers either, but I'll jump on the band wagon for one week.

What was life like when you were a kid?

When I was about 11 or 12 (early 90's), my family of 5 loaded up in a Ford Tempo and drove from SC to Bar Harbor, ME and back, with several stops in the northeast along the way (Boston, NYC, Providence, etc). While not the same as a huge family taking long trips in a wagon, it still felt like a...

I'd bet Luck has a pretty sizable insurance policy taken out as well for next season (probably paid for by some Stanford booster).
