Sometimes you just need to scream!!!

Good question. Might be worth talking to a CPA.

Sometimes you just need to scream!!!

From my understanding, as a general rule, as long as you pay more in taxes each year (which given the political situation, as long as your income remains the same or increases, you will), you don't have to sweat the underpayment penalty too much. I'm not sure if there is a set rule on that, but...

Sometimes you just need to scream!!!

If it makes you feel better, I'm married and we both claim zero and we still owe about $2k. If you're at a certain income level, and don't have much in the way of deductions, you either have to withhold extra or be prepared to pay every year. There's a calculator on the IRS website that can...

    Vacation in San Francisco

We were only in the City for half a day or so, and I didn't get to check out any of the bars, but I talked to some locals about it and they basically said that there is only one part of the city where that's an issue, and its pretty freaking obvious if you stumble into that part of town. I...

    Vacation in San Francisco

I was there a couple summers ago for work. Make sure you check out fisherman's wharf and chinatown (which I really liked, but I guess it depends on what you like). Also, if the wife likes shopping, she'll love the embarcadero(sp?). As far as Alcatraz goes, make sure you get your tickets weeks...

Do you think engineers are on the way to becoming “cheaper by the dozen”?

DK, I'm just wondering, are you in an exempt industry? I think I remember you changing jobs some time back, but I can't remember.

    Babies on Airplanes

Yep, just outside the park. I'm sure you've got things planned well, but be sure to check the national park website before you come. If you're planning on exploring any of the smokies, there are a lot of ARRA road projects going on right now that have blocked a lot of access to some of the more...

I, too, hope we (Clemson) get to play WV. The Clemson/Mizzou game should be interesting. Best I can tell, they are two teams that have a very similar style of play. The good news for ya'll is that while Purnell has done wonders for our program, we have not been a very good tournament team under him.

How Much of Pay Raise after PE Certification?

I promise I'm not trying to encourage RP, but I feel like I should say that I know several (20-year) engineers in my industry making that kind of money. HOWEVER, I work in a very specialized industry, and those guys that make that kind of money are generally more willing to travel and work OT...

    The basement boys

I may have mentioned this here before, but it amazes me how many guys I know my age (I'm 29) who can't DO anything. I was lucky enough to be taught by my dad from an early age how to do things, like car repair, home repair, landscaping, etc. Don't get me wrong, I'm no master mechanic, but I can...

stupid tax question of the day

Yep. If you bought the stock though a dividend reinvestment program, then you'll need the purchase price at each reinvestiment time (quarterly, annually, whatever) in order to figure your cost basis. Turbotax should be able to find those average daily prices for you, if you have the dates. For...

    Requesting government rate for vacation

Yep, they have always asked for my ID. And we have been expressly told many times that we are not to use our govt. ID for travel (or anything else) unless its official travel.

    February 11

The 20% is usually for research reactors and medical isotope reactors. Iran is saying they needed it to create medical isotopes. How long it takes to get from 20 to 90 just depends on how many and what type centrifuges they are running.
