    After 10-28-11  GAME ON!

I might get Battlefield 3. I just quit playing World of Warcraft - my guild quit raiding - and picked up Dragon Age: Origins to placate the wife (she's been playing it and saying "You should try this!"... put close to 24 hours into it since Wednesday or so, so I'd say I'm pretty much hooked.

    Teacher vs. Engineer

I'm still not at 60k (even assuming full time). And I've had a license since 2009. Even if I was working full time, I'd need to get a significant raise to make 60k a year. And that is (as I understand it) common in my area; my employer pays reasonable rates in general.

Sometimes you just need to scream!!!

Honestly, I don't like them much myself. I generally specify Simpson, Powers or Hilti, and if I get to the job site and they have Red Head, I check to see if it's a seismic-related bolt. If it is, I don't allow substitution. And I *do not* allow for the substitution of Epcon for SET or HY...

Sometimes you just need to scream!!!

You know, that flashed through my head when I told the contractor that the red heads looked good, this time. Some of my favorite women of sci-fi: Gates McFadden, Patricia Tallman, Gillian Anderson, Karen Gillan. Gee, I wonder what they have in common...

Sometimes you just need to scream!!!

Got to work a few minutes late. Came in to a message from a repeat client; he'd swung by first thing. Get ready to call him and apologize. Get a call from another client. The letter I wrote yesterday, to get the inspector to pass a foundation, didn't fly with the inspector. And the...

    Billing Rate vs Pay

Depending on where the project is (Oregon=designer rates, Washington=Engineer rates), I get between 30% and 23% of my billed rate.

Who was the worst President since the Depression

Well, in my defense, mine actually generally do an excellent job of representing me and my interests. Peter Defazio & Ron Wyden.

Who was the worst President since the Depression

I'd prefer a truly Reagan-like politician to the crop we have right now. I might even vote for someone like that.

Who was the worst President since the Depression

The other major site I go to - one with a far closer to center/politically well distributed, though somewhat younger, userbase than this one - it's generally assumed that the far right wing of the Republican Party will cost them the election, unless a major political shift happens between now...

Who was the worst President since the Depression

Indeed. Makes me furious. It was a bad law to begin with; not only does it involve issues with making us closer to a police state, it's security *theater* that puts us closer to a police state. In other words, it's ineffective at doing anything except making us feel better about our security.

Who was the worst President since the Depression

Well, maybe not 4 years of Cheney... but Obama's been doing his best to lose my support. Still, not sure who I'd vote for instead. I haven't seen a Republican I'd trust enough to vote for - Romney was close, but then he started backpedaling to appease the far right.

    Eco friendly water bottles

Someone once wanted to give me a shirt that said "No, they're not real, but my **** is." Fortunately, they'd left their wallet at home. I'd have had to kill them.

    Eco friendly water bottles

Can't. Allergic (well, ok, intolerant) to a chemical in fermented drinks. I've never had more than a sip or two of any drink without getting violently ill. Not sure why. Not sure I care why.

Who was the worst President since the Depression

I suspect there are a lot of women on this board with PE licenses. Oh wait, no, you were failing to be clever while talking about me. Seriously people, it's one (admittedly major) facet of me and my existence. What's the fascination? Isn't my license-without-degree more relevant to this...

    Eco friendly water bottles

The main lines are fine - I have a friend that lives close by. It's the lines closest to my house - my subdivision, a manufactured home park - that are bad. The park is resistant to doing anything about it unless we prove that it's dangerous/illegal. Note: Yes, I know, manufactured home...

    Eco friendly water bottles

True. Of course, it depends on what your local water is like. Mine tastes horrible. It leaves rust stains after a week or two, and if you fill a glass with water and let it evaporate, there is noticeable buildup of something at the bottom of it. One of my cats has gotten sick from drinking...

    Cubic Yard Abbreviation

When I need it - which is rarely - I use yd^3 or cu yd (the first for text, the second in formulas).
