I've been asked to stamp drawings I have no business stamping.

Agreed. I wasn't considering that aspect of it; the office I work for always makes sure to involve the right engineer at the start of the project (and I have refused to stamp items I wasn't so involved in).

I've been asked to stamp drawings I have no business stamping.

Indeed. The question is, can Troubled asked to stamp them become familiar/comfortable/knowledgeable about the project, the design, and the area of knowledge? If absolutely not, then Troubled needs to turn it down flat. If it's possible, though, than Troubled should state "I'm making an effort...

I've been asked to stamp drawings I have no business stamping.

Substitute "Qualified Registered Engineer" for "Registered Engineer". Though - if it's like the blind spots I have, it may have caught them off guard. I'm licensed as Civil, but there's no way I'd stamp some of the more complex non-structural work - I work on *structures*, and that's it. I...

I've been asked to stamp drawings I have no business stamping.

Absolutely agreed with this, though it's possible they expected to have the license-by-comity go through faster, or (not knowing how large the company is) had the original engineer that was to work on the project leave right as it started. We had that happen to us just a few months ago...

I've been asked to stamp drawings I have no business stamping.

Absolutely do this. DO NOT stamp anything you are not comfortable stamping. If it's something that is extraordinarily complex and completely outside of your experience and knowledge, do not stamp it at all. If it's EE and you're a Civil, or ME and EE, or any other variation - don't. If it's...

    funny pic thread

No, but it left my eyesight slightly blurred, so I didn't get the whole effect. They removed a lens and replaced it (injury-induced cataract). Didn't give me any frikkin lasers though, so my Borg impression is still rather weak.

I think I'm glad I just had eye surgery.

    Ethics who's got em

A phone call is certainly not enough to justify claiming it. On the other hand, I would say that engineering for a canceled project is still noteworthy, depending on the scale of the project. Right after I started working at my office, a large project was canceled. It was at the 99% stage...

    Mattress opinions

No idea how old mine is; got it used from an older couple at least 7 years ago though. It's fine, but frustratingly sized - it's supposed to be a "west coast king", but it doesn't match *any* of the standard sizes or shapes for sheets. One of these days I'll replace it, but a large bed is...

VT, that wasn't nice. Hilarious, but not nice.

How to properly carve a pumpkin

I've never bothered with them - I'm not artistic enough to worry about them, and my spouse and I don't even hand out candy - we make plans to do other things. Even as a kid I was more of a "Candy candy candy candy" kind of kid than anything else. Edit: Oh yeah, I was gonna link Now THOSE...

Sometimes you just need to scream!!!

Hah. No, I was sitting down at my desk while eating, and had three different people come babble at me ask me questions. Happens every day, usually 5-6 times. We don't have a breakroom or any other place that would be convenient to eat. The worst is my boss, who not only asks me questions but...

    --**-- The Infirmary --**--

A friend once called me "The Fount of Mostly Useless Information". But no, really. My family is split down the middle between medical and construction professions, so I know enough about medicine that I make a terrible patient - I want explanations and descriptions about everything.

    --**-- The Infirmary --**--

Actually, it isn't. Not really. Migraines are expansion of blood vessels; caffeine actually makes that worse. The reason it's used in medicines is that it also increases absorption rates significantly; you can take a higher dose in less time while the brain is on caffeine, allowing the brief...

    --**-- The Infirmary --**--

Hah! Over the weekend I get to catch up on my work. As for red bull, they're nasty. I've decided to just ride the headaches out, since I'm past the worst of them - I've actually been trying to quit caffeine for a while, but it's hard to do. Must have sugar water!

    --**-- The Infirmary --**--

Had a stomach bug late Sunday & Monday, had a sore throat but was otherwise OK for most of Tuesday, then got hammered Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday - I couldn't even get out of bed Wed; my entire right side hurt. Left side felt fine though, which is weird - I think I might have pneumonia...

    What occupation do engineers marry?

My wife works from home as a transcriptionist. She's officially trained as a medical transcriptionist, but also does a lot of legal and general transcription. She's also a trained (AS) Network Administrator, though her training was out-of-date by the time she got a job in the field, and more...
