    Basement Flooding

With all the rain in Chicago over the weekend (5.5+inch in under an hour) the sewers backed up and we got a few inch of water in the basement. The water was 99%+ clear and there wasn't really an odor. Obvisously it was sewer water, but it wasn't nearly as bad as you see on TV sometime. The...

What percentage of your income do you save?

I would have liked to have done that, but not sure I would have lasted 5 years. I maxed out the Stafford loans and took no private loans. I am on track to pay them off in 3.5 years which really reduces the amount of interest I am going to pay at the end of the day.

What percentage of your income do you save?

If you count the extra loan payments on my MBA loans, I save about 25% of my income.

    processing speed disorder

If you and Supe are drawing the distinction between competency and practicing, I agree there is one. In your example, if the time difference is 2x and instead of just one "B", there are 100s who on average score 70%. Practicing in the real word is going to be closer to the the speed in which...

    That's a good point.

    processing speed disorder

The may have picked 8 hours since it is a nice round number, but there has to be thought and analysis in the number of questions to statistically evaluate the results and how long the average person takes to do the average problem.

    processing speed disorder

I don't think the times are arbitrary. A lot of work goes into designing the tests like this so the can accurately assess the level of competency (not saying they always do it well). Time is certainly a factor. Also, I think it certainly matters how long it takes you to solve a problem or...

    processing speed disorder

http://blogs.wsj.com/law/2011/06/02/lsat-a...lities-lawsuit/ Stuff like this pisses me off. I am all for equal opportunities but at what point does the ability to process information at a normal speed become a requirement of the job? I am sure stuff like this happens with the PE all the time...

    Life Insurance

Thanks for the responses. Another question - for those with term, how long of term do you have? I am 31, married with a one year old (more planned). I am kind of think of a 15 year or 20 year term (leaning toward 15 year if I go that route).

    Life Insurance

Moving to a new job in a few weeks and know my family doesn't have adequate life insurance. I got the info from the new job and the price is comparable as individual quotes I have received. The group insurance is a little cheaper than term quotes, but the term is locked for 10 -15 yrs (haven't...

Will my GPA matter at this point?

I would say GPA means little or nothing after a year or two of work experience. Right or wrong, GPA is the metric that is used a lot to judge competency for fresh grads.

Will my GPA matter at this point?

I didn't mean to imply that "goofing off" was the only reason for a poor GPA. Maybe I was speaking from expereince where my GPA was a 2.7 because I "goofed off" (a/k/a drinking beer) at college.

    what if?

Maybe it is just me, but junk mail doesn't bother me all that much and it isn't such a huge burden on my productivity. Few junk emails make it through and I delete. Once a week, I go through an email from the spam filter with emails that got quarantined. I take a quick look and the very very...

Will my GPA matter at this point?

not sure whether it will come up during the background check and I wouldn't be too worried about it, but I would have an explanation ready. Did you goof off the first 2 years, hold a full time job, etc. Try to spin it as positively as possible and show positive change (e.g., I wasn't as...

Ordering from the factory versus buying off the lot

The internet has really changed car buying. I just bought a new car and got internet pricing for a number of dealers. Prices were below invoices and all within a couple hundred of each other. Picked the color, walked into the dealership, test drove, said we take it for the internet price...
