Do I Need Continuing Education Credits if I just got PE license in January 2012?

Ohio also has the exemption, though we just switched from an annual renewal to a biennial renewal. The exemption now covers the first year, so instead of 30 credits in the two year period, I will need 15 credits in the second year. I have yet to determine if I do 15 credits this year if I have...

When will I receive my Certification after Passing?

In Ohio, you receive the certificate about 3-4 months after results are certified. So, I'll get my certificate sometime in March, I believe. I am traveling for two Saturdays in March, though, so I hope it's one of the other weekends! (I'd like to attend the ceremony). However, I received my...

    FE Calculator Opinions

Casio. Great little calculator with a LOT of power. Does complex numbers very well, can solve systems of equations, do operations on matrices and more. And I can't stand RPN, so that made that a little easier.

How many years out of college were you when you got your PE??

10 years out of college for me. Graduated in '01, got PE last week (Oct 11 exam). Only been doing engineering work for 5 years, though. (I was in the Army after graduation...ROTC paid for school).

    PE vs. P.E.

Most people I know use PE. I have it as PE on my signature, and I'm sure it'll be that way on my business cards when the new ones come in, as all of ours have it listed without the periods. Going through the business cards I have on my desk at the moment, 6 of them have it listed "PE" (two...

Record number of attempts for taking the PE Exam?

Of course not. The PE is not an indicator of an expert in the field. It is a credential that shows a baseline of competence and knowledge in the field. I don't think anyone will say that a PE shows that one person is more competent or knowledgeable than one without a PE, just that the one...

Record number of attempts for taking the PE Exam?

I have to say I very much disagree. The FE tests competence in your degree, and sets a baseline of knowledge for the engineering profession. It does not test job knowledge at all. While some parts of the PE exam are certainly not used by everyone who takes it (though those parts will be...

October 2011 Results Reported So Far - Map

Amazed that only a little more than half the states have released results so far. Frustrating for those still waiting, I'm sure.

Question about Electrical and Electronics PE code

The NEC is rather heavily tested on the Power exam, but a look at the Electrical and Electronics topic list does not show the NEC or any code requirements, so I would highly doubt you'd see it. The NEC and NESC deal almost exclusively with power, safety and building means and methods, so there...

    PDH for taking exam

I had never thought about PDHs for the exam. Obviously it doesn't help for your first PE, but for subsequent exams it makes sense. For instance, in my company we have a few MEs and one EE who are going to be taking the Fire Protection PE (well, two MEs have both taken and failed it already)...

October 2011 Results Reported So Far - Map

Congrats! We have had a few people (who are already mechanical PEs) in our company go for the FP PE as well, but all have failed so far. :) One just failed for the second time, so now has to wait another year before another go round.

    PE Results - Electrical (Power)

Congrats! I'm curious what the passing score was. It seems that Electrical had a pretty low passing rate this year (61% for first timers), yet there are very few failing scores posted here.
