The questions asks for the average value. Should'nt the answer be 0 and not 1000? The average value of a periodic square wave is zero. The answer would make sense to me if we were asked to find the effective or r.m.s value of the waveform. What am I missing? Thanks.

1000 is correct. The question is asking for the average "magnitude", not average value. It took me awhile to see it. It was a little tricky. I am practicing reading the questions slowly, this will come in handy for the exam.
