An 18-foot wide, shared use facility has an observed two-way volume of 180 bikes per hour with a 50/50 split. The peak 15 minute pedestrian volume for the path is 70 pedestrians. Assume an average pedestrian speed of 3.5 ft/sec and a bicycle speed of 12 mph. If PHF = 0.90, determine LOS for this facility.

A) LOS B

B) LOS C

C) LOS D

D) LOS E

I have F = 140, but LOS D regardless.

Care to show everyone how you did it?

HCM example problem for equations 22-28

F=(Fp+0.5Fm)

Fp=Qsb/PHF(1-Sp/Sb)

FM=Qob/PHF(1+Sp/Sb)

Qsb=90 b/h

Qob=90 b/h

PHF=.90

Sp=3.5

Sb=12Mph*1.47=17.64

You are correct it is 140.149 I had not covered mph/ft/s

See exhibit 23-4 HCM page 23-4
