It's been a while.....here goes.

A basic three-lane freeway segment operates at Free Flow Speed of 68 miles per hour. The expected base capacity in passenger cars per hour of this segment is most nearly:

A) 7050

B) 7200

C) 7100

D) 7500

Choose FFS curve which 70 mph. so the capacity = 2350 x 3 = 7050 pc/hr. Correct me if I am wrong,thanks

I'll let others take a shot, but is that your final answer?

My bad,I did use the wrong curve. It should be 7200. Otherwise, I will wait for other answers.

No other takers I guess.

Correct answer is B - 7200

2 steps for this problem:

1) Know which direction to round on the FFS curve, do not try to interpolate

2) Pluck the base capacity off the FFS curve (or the text) and multiply by the number of lanes in the relevant direction.

2400 * 3 = 7200

Very nice. Sorry JQ..... Both the friends I was putting through "PE Boot Camp" passed so, since I am not mentoring any more, I'm not as active in problem solving. Six months ago, I would have given them your quiz as homework and provided you with an answer.

PS Answer choices should be in ascending order!! :p

No worries, these are as much for my own benefit as for others.
