Pavement Marking Removal / Slurry Seal

Anyone have any experience with slurry seal projects and removal of pavement marking prior to applying slurry?

The Caltrans Maintenance Technical Advisory Guide mentions that removal of thermoplastic marking is required but removal of paint marking is not required. The reasoning behind removal of thermoplastic seems to be adhesion of the slurry. Someone I spoke with mentioned there are adhesion issues with paint marking as well. Has anyone had issues (adhesion or others) with slurry being placed over paint markings?

I've never had a problem putting it over paint markings but Thermo you will need to hot Hydra blast up or something

We've had problems in town with ghost lines showing up after the slurry. We use hydroblasting for most marking removals.

We remove paint too.

Thermoplastic markings have a thickness to them, whereas paint virtually has no thickness.
