CERM 13th ed. Example 51.1 uses a shear strength reduction factor (phi) of 0.85. Everything I've read in the CERM and ACI 318 leads me to believe this should be 0.75. Is this a typo in the CERM or is there some special circumstance for one-way slab design that would make this 0.85?

Porter check aci 318-11 section 9.3.2.3 it may have been updated to 0.85. I do not have the 11 edition only the 08. And yes it is .75. This test is based on 08 but the next one will be the 11 edition.

I don't have ACI 318-11 either, but equations in CERM 13th ed. are based on 318-08. So I assume it's a typo. Thanks for the input MARIO650.

Porter I looked into it a bit more and it looks like they are following appendix c of the aci 318-08 c.9.3.2.3. I am not sure when appendix c applies and when it does not.

Good find. As far as the PE exam goes Appendix C does not apply (per the syllabus).
