A tap is a physical connection point on a branch conductor or a feeder. You can tap or connect a conductor on another conductor (branch or feeder) within given limitations given in the code book, branch circuit tap (NEC 1999 210.19D & 210.21A) and feeder tap (NEC 240.21B). A conductor extending from a tap or connection point is called a tap conductor. Table 210.24 is showing the conductor sizes of branch circuit wires and branch circuit tap wires.
