Working Father who Signed up for PE CIvil Transpo

I found it easier to either go into work and study before I started, or stay late at work and study. Once I got home there was little hope of studying with kids around. By the time my kids would be asleep I would lose all motivation to study. My advice is make sure you are looking at what...

Tips for taking the PE again

Practice problems were key for me. However, if you use old NCEES/6 min problems look at the content prior to solving them. The content of what is tested on in the morning session has changed throughout the years and you don't want to waste time studying things you won't be tested on. For example...

    Salaries??

You should be able to at least get reimbursed for the exam with something like an on the spot award. Also, it should now allow you to apply to higher GS positions that don't actually require a PE but is mandatory based on the position description.

    hallelujah!!!!!!!!!

Honestly, I would do B :)  But if I had a different work environment I would hopefully do A.

    State License Roster / Lookup

Washington seemed to take FOREVER when I took it. However, that may have been because I was impatient to see the number.

Side work while working for USACE

Late response to this, but as long as there is no conflict of interest you are fine. You're ethics training at USACE will talk about this. Typically the contractors for USACE are not the same as residential. There are definitely a handful of people in each district who do side jobs.

    This Week...

My daughter actually really liked the hyper cube. I was laying in bed with her, trying to get her to go to sleep as I browsed this bored and she said "look mommy! That cube is really cool!" True story.

Where will you view your NCEES Exam Result?

April 2015-I hadn't found this board yet. My friend from college (she's part of this group too) sent me a message asking if I had received my results. I was at work. I checked right away. I passed. My office was empty that day, but I told everyone I saw. I couldn't stop smiling. Thankfully it...

Would you redo becoming an engineer?

I still have no clue what I want to be when I grow up. I didn't go into engineering for the love of engineering, but for the stability of it. I would probably go into the biology field or sports physical therapy. Except physical therapy would require actual studying in college since it is more...

    Spring '18 Exam Result Day...

May 25th. Friday before the long weekend. That way only a few states get results and others have to wait over the weekend knowing that their test is already graded.

One week out from the test advice

I did some last minute "cramming" the night before. It was only for about 1/2 an hour, but it refreshed a topic that I ended up seeing in multiple places on the exam. I also showed up way to early to the exam site. I read that it started at xyz am when in reality they opened the doors at that...

    Happy Test Month

I took the test 8 months pregnant. At least I had an obvious reason to use the restroom so many times. Otherwise they would probably have to check the restroom for contraband material 😂 Definitely wasted valuable time going back and forth in a large room.

    Happy Test Month

For civil construction I had one backpack and that was it. I had a binder that encompassed a lot of topics that I mainly used in addition to the CERM.

Licensed PE without college degree or experience -- just pass the PE exams?

In Washington you need 10 years of engineering work under a PE instead of four. You are also required to have your FE. I know people have have actually done this.

Help selecting PE Discipline - ME: Thermal/Fluids or CE: WR/Enviro.

The environmental part might end up biteing you in the butt if you have no background in it. The CE's that I know who took that exam was fine for the water resources/hydraulic part but struggled on the chem part of environmental
