How I Passed the Thermal / Fluid PE exam

I took TF exam and passed. Exactly same as you. I expected AM problems would be easy, but felt harder than expected. Hence I was so disappointed and during lunch time I called my wife and said "I think I would fail because normally PM problems are harder. But my wife told me "never give up!". I...

How I Passed the Thermal / Fluid PE exam

I got the news that I passed TF exam on Friday. First try. I really want to say thank you to EB. Especially to Ramnares! I have found great ideas, methods and intuition in this thread!!

Air table or Cp equation for compressor work

Thanks! They do not provide T2 hence the only way to find T2 is to use ideal gas law. So we should treat it the ideal gas even if "ideal gas " is not mentioned in problem.  The difference can be disregarded considering the differences in four answers.

Air table or Cp equation for compressor work

They result in different values. That is why I raised up this matter. If the gap between four values in problem is big, it would be no problem. But if the gap is small, for example SMS TF prob no 20, the correct answer would be different. In SMS prob no 20, the solution uses air table h value...

Air table or Cp equation for compressor work

When we calculate air compressor power for isentropic compression, I am little confused whether to use air table or cp equation.  My understanding is if "ideal gas" is given in problem we should use mdot*cp*deltaT coz cp is constant for ideal gas. But there is no mention of "ideal gas" in...

Help identify equations from 6MS for Thermal/Fluids

    The equation in 6MS Thermal / Fluids 2nd Ed. - Problem # 67 can be derived from mdot*cp*(T2-T1) using P=rho*R*T and T2=T1*(P2/P1)^(k/k-1).

Too much prep mat'l! Please need advice from PEs on how to prioritize...

For MERM practice problems, my feeling is it's like a vaccination to prevent real infectious disease. It may look unnecessary for the real exam but we usually are not able to really recognize the worth of vaccination.

MD study for TF exam takers

I made my study plan into two absolutely independent paths which are TF and others. (but slightly more focused on HVAC.) Now I feel approx. 90% of study time was used for TF. For TF studying, first just quickly reviewed MERM then seriously worked on MERM with practice problems twice excluding...

MD study for TF exam takers

Approximately one month to go and I know everybody is falling in love(?) with books and sample exams.  I selected TF because I found if I select TF then I would see only 8 problems from MD in morning according to NCEES spec. I could say HVAC morning is be a part of TF. It means I can focus on...
