I was about the same as you John. I didn't prep quite that long, maybe 4 months or so but there weren't any tricky questions on the exam in either session. I finished an hour early in the morning and close to 2 hours early in the afternoon.

Experience counts anywhere in the county as long as it meets that State's requirements. Generally that means that you worked under the responsible charge of a licensed PE and in some cases can be verified by that supervisor.

Your interpretation is correct. I've seen states that don't pay any attention to discipline at all and a PE is a PE no matter what other than the exception of a structural engineer. It's up to your own professional judgement as to what you're competent to seal. California is pretty restrictive...

Good testing strategy on your part. Not getting yourself bogged down on any one question is in your best interests, especially during the morning session where you have less time per question on average.
