How long did you study for the exam ?

I studied five weeks before the test, about 2-4 hours during the week and 4-8 hours during the weekend. I got a little bored of studying about a week before the test and took a day off. The two days before the test were spent doing lite studying and review, getting all references ready to go...

    Projects that needs PE stamps

I was always under the impression that if you are designing something for your company or use, then the drawings do not have to be stamped. However, if you are designing something for someone else to use as plans for design and construction then you have to stamp them. When coming out of...

Career Options for a Power PE

I work at a utility as well and we mainly contract the large firms as well. Depending on the work, it is possible for some of the smaller local firms to get the work but normally it is folks like Burns and Mac, ECI, etc. However, I have a friend who still works as a Consulting Engineer and they...

Critique my PE power review schedule

First, I commend you if you can follow that schedule and not lose track. I am not sure how comfortable you are with the topics covered so you might require the extra study time. Personally, I would get bored about four weeks in, lose focus, and the test results would more than likely reflect...

    Passed, Pay Raise?

I just got a 5% annual raise for merit and cost of living. Since I have 5 years of experience (2 previous job and 3 current job) and the PE now, I asked about getting my next progression promotion and raise instead of having to wait for 5 years experience at current company. If it all goes well...

    Electrical Power Pe Exam Results

Wow that is an interesting setup for your company. When I worked as an EE for a consulting/design firm, there were lots of people that were PE's and all of them signed documents/drawings. All Department Heads, Project Managers and Senior Engineers had to be a PE and they typically signed their...

    Electrical Power Pe Exam Results

There are a few jobs (like consulting or design engineer) were having a PE will bring more money, higher positions, and better promotions while some jobs do not really care about the PE. Having a PE will never be a bad thing for you or your career. My current job does not really require having...

Complex Imaginary Test 4 Problem 51

Looks like they only calculated the average value for half of a period for the sine wave. If they calculated the value for second half of the wave, then they would have come up with zero. Bad thing is this seems like just another error in the CI exams. Good thing is you know enough to catch them!!

Complex Imaginary Test 4 Problem 80

Bama, The errata sent out by Josh added marks to the horizontal axis on all graphs so it is easier to tell. If you want, PM me an email address and I will send you the two erratas for Variation 3 & 4 tonight when I get home.

Complex Imaginary Test 4 Problem 30

Bama, I think the key here is CI says the autotransformer is rated at 500MVA so you cannot use the two problems from the NCEES practice exam as a basis to solve this problem. I posted two pictures in another thread that I linked below that shows the relationship between Sh/Sx to the Sc...

    Calculate Short Circuit Current

Flyer, So their solution is incorrect and the two solutions I came up with are correct? I understand what you said about the j and that is why I solved it like I did. Just wanted to make sure I was not missing a concept somewhere. Thanks! I agree about the problem statement but it seems CI has...

    RMS Value of Waveform

Last one for now. Another Complex Imaginary problem that I think they took a shortcut that doesn't work. Problem statement and three solutions are below. Resources I used to come up with the first two solutions. The equations are a little different but produce the same result. The equations...

    Calculate Short Circuit Current

Another question revolving a Complex Imaginary problem. The problem statement is: The problem I have is that they add the PU impedance of the transformer to the line (including the j) instead of just adding the two PU values together. I have solved it two other ways and got the same answer...

    NCEES Practice Exam as Source

I believe this varies by state so you would need to check with someone from your area or your state board if bringing in the NCEES practice exam as a reference is allowed. If you post up your state, maybe someone here from the state could let you know. I know Oklahoma allows it.

    Calculate Source Impedance

I am working through the Complex Imaginary exams which is a trip by itself but I ran across a formula that I wanted someone to back check if possible. Problem #53 Variation 4: A customer of a utility is asking for an additional service for a three-phase transformer. The utility says the short...

Complex Imaginary Test 3 Problem 38

Bama, I ran the circuit as shown in PSpice and found that the circuit as drawn with a sinusoidal voltage input just passes the input signal and does no rectification. So I think this goes back to what several of us have found out and that is CI has done a bad job on laying out the problem for...
