    Soma, In a 3 phase system, line to neutral voltages are always phase shifted by 30 degrees behind line to line voltages. The only reason they convert to Y configuration is because it's convienant. You could work with the phase to phase voltages but then you need to apply Kirchhoff's voltage...

    Soma, The load is delta connected so when you convert to Y (line to ground) the voltage will lag by 30 deg since the reference voltage is 0 deg. You will see this if you draw the phasor diagram. NCEES method is correct. Dean

    I don't know what to expect on Friday....I've treated the practice exams as a guide as to the subject material to focus on. No doubt the questions will be more difficult, otherwise the failure rate wouldn't be as high as it is. We'll see ;)

    I disagree. I think CI screwed this question up. If the turns ratio of common:series is 5:2, that means N1/N2=7/5=1.4. This is NOT a 230kV to 200kV step down xfmr but rather a 230/164kV step down autotransformer. Once you recognize this, you can apply the same method as NCEES, which is quicker...
