Advise on a useful Civil Engineering Dictionary

Agree with the others here. The civil engineering dicitionaries are a waste of money as most definitions can be found in the CERM or other references. I brought one with me to the exam and never used it.

    Reference/Manuals/codes for AM/Water Resources PM

"Wastewater Engineering Treatment and Reuse", 4th edition by Metcalf and Eddy. "Handbook of Hydraulics", 7th edition by Brater, King, Lindell, and Wei. These and the CERM are all I used for the PM and I passed, but it could vary for each exam.

    Merritt Handbook for Civil Engineers

I bought it for the April 2011 exam and honestly, I rarely used it in my studying and never used it during the exam. It's a good all-in-one reference that any civil engineer could use but it's really not a necessity for the exam. Just my opinion.

    Structural Problems - AM Breadth

Here's what I did for the AM and I passed and felt I did really well on this section: 1. Ignore the CERM problems unless you have tons of free time and want to be able to teach a review course. In reality, the exam questions for the AM aren't that hard and if you already have a BSCE from an...

Can I change the PM speciality now?

You used to get all 5 depth sections in one booklet. That way, you could switch during the exam if the one you were working on seemed too difficult. Now, you only get the one you registered for. It probably has something to do with saving trees, but the benefit to you is that it forces you to...

    Please help me with schedule

I passed the civil/WR exam last April in FL and my advice is to just work problems, focusing mainly on the AM section. The AM problems are usually more straightforward than the PM problems. Because of this, you can do really well on this section and relax for the PM. You should have an...

    Transportation AM

I recommend the Transportation 6-minute solutions book and the NCEES sample problems book. Six-minute solutions is a little harder than the exam problems and the NCEES problems are very similar in difficulty to the exam problems. For the AM Trans., I believe all the problems deal with...

Exam site Florida- Orlando or Miami?

I took the exam in Orlando, so no experience with Miami. There is plenty of parking at the Orange County Convention Center and if you get there early enough, you don't pay for parking as the attendants don't show up until 6:30 or so. I got there early (around 6am) and found this out by...

Questions for previous PE test takers

I finally passed on the third try this past April 2011. You are correct that the NCEES sample problems are most similar to the exam problems. I had the latest edition and a couple of the problems were so similar that all I had to do was change the numbers and recalculate. I'm not sure if the...

    Structural AM preparation

I agree that the best approach is doing practice problems, which will familiarize you with the appropriate sections of the CERM. The CERM is really the only reference you need for the AM. 6-minute solutions and NCEES sample problems are sufficient preparation for the AM section for all areas...

    Civil PE Exam

Work through the breadth problems in the WR/E 6-minute solutions book and the WR/E breadth problems in the latest edition of the NCEES problems book. FYI, the NCEES book lumps all breadth problems together. Working through these problems will familiarize you with the appropriate sections of...

    PE Certificate

Yes, my certificate looks pixelated and cheap as well. I was expecting more.

    Structural and Geotechnical AM Topics

For the AM, I would recommend working the AM problems in the 6-minute solutions book as well as the NCEES book. Working through these problems will allow you to be familiar with the applicable chapters of the CERM. This is much better prep than studying the CERM and then solving problems. It...

    Water Resources or Transportation?

It is my understanding that for the PM Transportation, you need to be familiar with the references (MUTCD, Roadside Design, etc...), so if you're familiar with these and have a good grasp on water resources, you should be okay. As I said before, I passed WR/E without knowing a lot about...

    Water Resources or Transportation?

It all depends on what you're comfortable with. I took WR/E and passed without knowing too much about environmental. The PM section of this exam is almost evenly split between water and environmental. It's possible to do well on the ENV problems if you are good at unit conversions. My advice...

    PE Certificate

Got my wall certificate, wallet card, and initial license yesterday for FL.

Studying for the PE - Where to start?

This exam is all about solving problems, so you should begin your preparation with that end in mind. AM section: CERM will be your main reference. To prepare for these problems you should work through all of the breadth problems in the 6-minute solutions books and the NCEES problems book...

Which states allow practice problems in the exam room?

Florida allows them. I had all of my 6-minute solutions books, NCEES problems book, and all of the solved problems in a binder, separated by subject. I never opened any of the books during the exam, but I used my solved problems binder a couple of times for exam problems that were very...

    Florida License Numbers

Still waiting. Hoping for this week. I think it took 3-4 weeks after license numbers were issued for the Oct. 2010 exam.
