    power guy to other?

Well, I am not at a utility. I have always worked at design firms and it also seems like we are workers on an assembly line. Just get the project done as soon as possible. Go, go, go! With no attention paid to quality. And then you get blamed when there are not just change orders, but even RFIs.

    power guy to other?

I think the sub par wages is one reason not to go into power engineering as opposed to the other disciplines. I am in a similar position as the original poster. I live in Silicon Valley. Am an electrical engineer in the power industry. But I have friends who are EEs in the high-tech industry...

    Which job should I take?

I decided to make the jump. The job I am at now heavily relies on institutional and government clients. Things have seriously slowed down in those two fields at least for my company. The new company is focused on the manufacturing industry and as long as the economy doesn't crash again (a BIG...

    Which job should I take?

Should I stay at the company I am at now - $72.5k/year, pay no health premium, 25% match 401k, 0-4k annual bonuses depending on how the company is doing. But I am very slow now and I don't really like my boss. Plus the company is a civil company that happens to have electrical guys and is really...

    When recruiters come calling

I have a very pushy recruiter trying to get me to switch jobs. He got me to inteview. I got an offer, but it's not very appealing. Essentialy same money I am at now, but possibly a more exciting company. Anyone have any advice. As an electrical engineer, would you jump over to be able to get...

Anybody got raise this year? Then how much?

Got a measly 3.6% raise for passing my PE - Electrical exam. I actually was so pissed I gut the guts to go to my boss and tell him I was dissapointed by it. He told me he had to argue with upper management to just get me this raise and that salaries have been for the most part frozen for the...

    Question for California EEs

An A/E firm is an architectural/engineering firm. Or a consultant.

    Question for California EEs

My company didn't discourage me from getting the PE. But basically told me that times are tough and mostly salaries are frozen throughout the company and the fact that I even got this raise, I should be appreciative for it. I do mostly design in the 480/277 & 208/120 range. I do some LV...

    Question for California EEs

I work at an A/E firm? Does that make a difference? Thanks guys for the responses. I definitely like the job. Like the projects I work on. Like the people. Just don't want to feel like I'm being taken advantage of.

    Question for California EEs

I posted this as part of another thread, but wanted to post it separately to get more opinions. So, I recently passed the PE exam and went from bliss to huge disappointment. I was counting on a significant raise because I've felt that I've been underpaid for the whole time I have been with this...

Electrical Power PE California Exam PASS with what study material

4.7% is at least not embarrassing to tell your wife. Disappointing but ultimately a sign of the times. 3.6% seems like a spit in my face. Especially after how much they pushed me to get the PE.

How young are the PEs here?

I am 26. Turning 27 in one month.

Electrical Power PE California Exam PASS with what study material

I used the Chelapati review book and took the course. But the course was kind of useless. The book is good and hard. I also used Kaplan which was useful too. You need something to review power electronics and Chelapati has a book for that but I never bought it. Just basically got tutored by a...

    Response From Employer

$50,000 was my starting salary out of college without even having my EIT. I don't think there is ANY location in the country where $50,000 is acceptable for someone having a PE. It is an insult.
