You get them about 2 months or so before the first date you can take it. I think I got my notice to register for Seismic/Surveying on Aug 25, first exam date was Oct 20. So yeah, about 2 months. You'll get an ID number  from the email and go onto Prometric. I was panicing for awhile because I...

"Licensed" vs "Registered" Professional Engineer on Stamp?

I was looking at engineerseals.com in particular, which is supposed to be reputable, but they give you the option of which one to choose. I presume they both technically meet requirements? I just wanted to see if anyone knew of any reason why the nomenclature might be a little different from...

"Licensed" vs "Registered" Professional Engineer on Stamp?

I just got my temporary license from California where it shows "Licensed Professional Engineer". Now all my bosses and every other stamp I've seen has said "Registered Professional Engineer" across the top. Did California change the nomenclature recently-ish? I guess it doesn't really matter...

For those discovering they didn't pass...

To be fair, I only printed what I felt like was relevant based on the topics.  I think it was like <200 pgs when I printed it but yeah they don't really care at my work.

When you get the email that you can now schedule exams, schedule the Seismic Exam ASAP (for me that was Oct 20) and schedule the Surveying Exam on the LAST day (for me that was like Nov 6). This gives you a little buffer between exams. I mostly did some practice exams and read up on my old...

For those discovering they didn't pass...

I don't know. I think I did mostly reading AND writing.  I made a bunch of formula sheets bound together, one page per each major topic source and used the NCEES list to generate those and pretty much put something down for each topic listed. As I read through stuff, I noted relevant...

    COME ON CA!

Do we know when to expect a license in the mail? I did the fingerprinting thing late so hopefully there's no delays and hopefully they got it.

Passed all three exams in California! Feels so good now I can get rid of all these books my girlfriend is yelling me at to "do something with them". Garage sale time :D

CA PE CIVIL - ALL THREE AT ONCE

Uh, registering for the 8 hour isn't important since it's a fixed day but it's like 10 weeks after getting the notice or something, I honestly forgot.  I was allowed to register for Seismic/Surveying on Aug 24 and earliest date is Oct 20th. So 2 months before the first exam date I think is...

CA PE CIVIL - ALL THREE AT ONCE

I took all three at once... we'll see. The main thing that I think helped, or at least my strategy was and I felt it was fair, is I took a Seismic Review Course by Hiner (recommended!) since I didn't know jack about ASCE-7/CBC/IBC and codes and that stuff is a bear to try to parse on your own...

Let's beat this thing like Engineers...

I would say you're making it waaaay more complicated than it needs to be. Part of the problem is that to really judge a problem you need to do some quick reading and make a decision then if to do it or just move on. But by the time you go back to do it again you basically need to re-read it and...

Everything you wanted to know about the CA-Survey/Seismic Civil PE Exams

I had a book by Ghilani and Wolf from undergrad that I dug out of storage from 6+ years ago. I found it very helpful and it's very comprehensive but you'd really have to be expect to put in several weeks to really go through and read it all but if you do then you'd probably be in a good spot...
