I agree with you. In this one, MERM is not very helpful, but Shigley has a different one than the NCEES solution. Thanks for pointing it out!

That's very clear on why the diameter of the pin should be 0.265-2*0.005. However, is the sign before the 0.005 a plus? if yes, is it possible to have a minus instead? and what would it mean? Thanks!

We know Delta P friction = rho * f * V^2 / 2 D.gc , the solution says that Delta P friction is proportional to the square of the velocity, but this assumes that the coefficient of friction is independant of the velocity, which is not true. in laminar flows f=64/Re and Re=V.D/kinematic viscisity...

Does anyone knows what does the box with + 0.005 A B C means? I thought the smallest diameter of the hole is 0.265 and the largest is 0.275. apparently not... Thanks, Lily

Thanks! I think the values in the MERM appendix should be ok for pressures less than 300 psia. Lily

I think most of us are starting to get overwhelmed, with the studying and the stress of the exam approching...at this point we should slow down and have some rest before the exam. Sarah
