Civil Surveying Exam- June 2nd to 9th

I received results in San Diego, so most places should be receiving them today. Adios Peeps, no need for me to come back here, I PASSED!!!

    Has anyone used this reference?

You don't need it but I did find it helpful, especially the hydrology and groundwater questions.

    California Dreamin

Frack!! I failed miserably on surveying, with 2 "deficient" and 2 "marginal" ratings on the score sheet. Glad to have the 8-hour done with though.

    Southern California Review Courses

I wound up taking the PECC Review course instead. I found them to be very helpful, nailed the 8-hour first try.

    IIT/School of PE/ASCE/ppi

I recommend Professional Engineering Course Center in Brea, if you're in SoCal. I took their FE and PE Civil classes and nailed both first try. The classes are small, no more than 10 people, so there is a lot of opportunity to ask questions and get individual help. The course fees also include a...

Longest weekend of my life, not in a good way either!

    I'm on the right track!

After questioning my sanity, self-worth, all of that fun stuff, I decided to assess my studying strategies by taking the most recent NCEES practice exam, as close to real conditions as possible. I got a 60/80, which isn't great, but means I am close ( I hope). I definitely need to work on...

    Critical v. normal depth problem

Here's a sample problem from the PPI site. They just give the equation to solve it with no explanation of the theory, I was hoping someone could enlighten me. The equation btw, is not in the CERM as far as I have found. "The height of a submerged barrier placed across the entire width of a 15...

    NCEES WR/ENV 2011 sample question 509

Which NCEES sample exam book is this question from? Is it the 2008 book with the color photo cover? It sounds like a good problem and I'd like to work it but I'm not quite understanding the problem or solution. Thanks!

    Six minute solution???

I did all of the breadth probs and gave up about a quarter of the way into the depth. I am going to go back to them if I have time, but they're on hold for the time being. I think working all the NCEES questions you can get your hands on is a better use of time, imo.

CA Civil PE application Appeal Success Stories

Let me guess: Your last name starts with h-n? I had the same thing happen. In the words of my reviewer, the experience must show "design of fixed works." Project Management, estimating, or reviewing plans will not get you there. I had to redo my reference forms, emphasizing design work, and...

    Mock exam question

Sorry to dig up a fossil, but this seems like a good problem. I get 6.002 feet. Can someone check my methodology? I get 1000.88 cfs as the new flow. Using Q=AV with the new Q, same V from the Manning formula (6.67 ft/s) and plugging in the formula for the area of a trapezoid and solving for the...

    Has anyone used this reference?

I plan on buying the book when I finish my other study materials (CERM, 6-min, and M&E), but that shouldn't be for another month at least.

    Supplemental Experience Form

That is quite nice of them to allow you to take the test first. I was denied by the California board from taking the exam three weeks out because they would not count all my experience. This is after devoting every waking second for five months studying, thousands spent, etc.
