I beat my fresh out of college engineers with them. (bad joke intended) I sign off in disciplines I am licensed to. It gives me more credibility and a lot of times, California requires a PE to sign off on mechanical, civil or electrical.

Most of them either take it in CA where 2 years is enough or they take it in IL where you can pass the exam but wait for the experience to be granted license.

Don't get me wrong. I chose the screen name, dontlikebeinganeng because my experience with industry and college expectation were far different. I really had the bright eyed, high expectation, joyful view of engineering, but with real life I got a little cynical. I haven't left engineering yet...

From what I hear: Expert witness requires many years of experience. If you're looking into patent law, you need to pass USPTO bar. Registration for most is ABET accredited program or FE. Most patent attorneys wanted nowadays are EE. ChemE is not that common/Chem & biochem is usually phd.

Are you talking about SCAQMD or Air Resources Board? I took the SCAQMD's exam and there is a disclosure you are not allowed to disclose the contents of the exam much like PE. I can however say if you have an ABET accredited degree, you should do fine.
