    The Walking Dead

Heh, agreed. He should be doing AARP commercials. Even if the show is moving slowly, I did thoroughly enjoy the "floater" scene.

What percentage of your income do you save?

20% into Roth 401K and probably another 10% into my Schwab account. However, I have no debt, kids, house payment, and my car is cheap/used. I have to save like it's going out of style as I really can't see working into my 70's. I envy those of you getting it done with kids and SOs that spend a...

Do you still get a letter or just online?

It appears that they no longer send out letters, as I didn't get one back in December for the October exam. Ultimately, you can just print out the passing document and the result is the same. Either way, if you passed, Congrats!

Failed again - 3rd try, now what?

Bummer. I'm sorry to hear that you've failed. However, Cableguy is absolutely right in that you should give yourself time. In fact, I would avoid the October exam and focus on April of next year. I can tell you that I started studying for the Oct. '10 exam in Feb. '10; given the late exam date...

    so what's everyone's job?

Instrumentation engineer. I design gas analyzers, thermocouple/thermistor based measurement devices, dataloggers, etc. Occasionally, I'll delve into controls, but not often. Day to day work is mostly a combination of embedded and application level programming, circuit board layout and design...

    Measuring glass thickness

Well, if you can't find anything commercially you may have to roll your own system. The trick is finding a variable that changes in relation to the glass thickness and does so in a repeatable manner. Hall Effect sensors maybe? Once you've found a measurable quantity then you should be able to...

Do I meet the 4 Year Requirement?

Apologies if this has been brought up, but did you consider using co-op experience? I used it in Ohio and had no difficulties. I took and passed the October 2010 EC&C PE exam with work experience starting from July 2007 fresh out of school, but with a year and a half of co-op experience at...

    Exam

In my best Leslie Nielsen voice, "I just want to tell you all good luck. We're all counting on you."

    Classic Commercials

There's the Aiwa commercial from the 90's with a hearse driver jamming to "Another One Bites the Dust". Of course, I still contend the best in recent years is the Fedex/Kinko's commercial with the discussion of everyone's flaws: Manager: "Rick, can you fold under pressure for me? Rick: "Like a...

    Radiation patterns

This is why I recommend bringing along the ARRL handbook and AS MANY radiation patterns as you can find. There are no good references and the problems in the NCEES book just say, "Oh, it's intuitively obvious that it's B". FWIW, there is no way that you'll have to analyze an antenna problem so...

    Pe Computer exam

DOH!!! I got it. This problem is a real kick in the nuts, though. I've attached the solution. Writing it out makes more sense. The catch is the 9 bit binary number can only represent numbers between 0 and 511. My apologies for lousy handwriting and even lousier scanning. scan0001.pdf

when to "quit" studying for exam?

I completely quit about 10 days before the exam and from that point on I just organized my notes and what I was taking to the exam. As for being worried about the exam, I can tell you that I considered canceling the exam because I felt that I could get killed on RF questions and that NCEES...

    Pe Computer exam

I still think there is something missing as I would need the binary representation of the exponent. In binary format, what is the table data from left to right? However, working backwards suggests that the exponent is 71 or 0100 0111. Let's start with 111.75 = (-1)^sign X 2^(e-64) X 0.1 ffff...

    Pe Computer exam

This doesn't look like a problem either. Could I get the EXACT problem statement. I see the mantissa from above, but I would need the exponent as well.

    Pe Computer exam

Could you post the entire question? I don't have the NCEES book for the computer exam. My apologies for not getting to this sooner.
