Principal Engineering Manager (Deputy Chief Engineer - Product Safety Assurance and Support)

We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineering Manager (Deputy Chief Engineer - Product Safety Assurance and Support) at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
As a Principal Engineering Manager – (Deputy Chief Engineer - Product Safety Assurance and Support), you will be overseeing a network of 30+ professional engineers in the execution of safety assurance plans in accordance with business compliance to contractual and corporate standards, whilst looking at how the team will evolve, how they will maintain product compliance moving forwards with programmes and using deep knowledge of safety engineering in hazardous environments to foresee challenges and encourage a culture of adaptability.
You will be a contributory influence to the direction of the business and compliance. As part of the assurance function you are required to take a holistic stance and through proportionate involvement gather information that will inform the plan, the schedule and compliance picture; not trying to be part of problem but resolve it.
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineering Manager – (Deputy Chief Engineer - Product Safety Assurance and Support), will involve:
Chairing or acting as an independent member of safety committees at programme level
Steering and embedding corporate strategy in the business
Spearheading compliance with policies and standards to the appropriate safety level
Engaging across the business to ensure that product safety assurance is at the forefront of engineering design
Acting independently in committee meetings and providing advice to build relationships across the business
Identifying efficiencies across the business and aligning to execute plan and schedule of product safety assurance
Engaging with stakeholders across the business at programme and corporate level to drive influence, as well as embedding strategic advice in order to continuously improve
Your skills and qualifications:
Degree (Honours) in STEM related discipline or equivalent experience
Demonstrable ability to conduct design reviews and chair meetings
Previous engineering design, leadership and assurance experience in a high hazard environment
Demonstrable project management skills, planning, scheduling and stakeholder engagement
Chartered Engineer, CEng (or working towards chartership)
Previous experience in engaging with the Nuclear Propulsion enterprise in the UK - desirable
