Spinup #211 three phase fault

3 posts in this topic

Spin-Up Question #211 "Which are the equivalent Circuits for a three phase fault?

Here is the circuit that they give it the answer.

According to the symmetrical components by blackburn book this is a three phase to ground fault not a three phase fault. The zero sequence network should be left as an open circuit not closed.

Dose the industry consider these the same that a three phase to ground fault is usually assumed when talking about a three phase fault or have I miss understood something?

I just got to the same problem. I believe it is a typo, it should say ground fault.

but if someone else could clarify it would be a huge help!

I have the ABB relaying book (it's good to have friends at the utility!) and

211#1 does appear to be a three-line-to-ground fault.

211#2: line-to-ground.

211#3: no idea. If 0 and 2 were flipped, it would be line-line?

211#4: two-lines-to-ground fault
