Assuming you took the Structural afternoon portion, I would take the SE as soon as possible afterward before they change what codes are referenced. As for both parts or not, it's really up to you. I took both and it worked out alright, but I've known others who took them separately.

i did. but i also am using the current codes in practice, so the changes wouldn't really affect me so much, I guess? The AASHTO is the code that is changing already and i don't use that at all. I just like, want a break? lol

IMO it's easier to keep going and knock it out than it is to take a break. You're already used to studying and you've probably got notes already, so it makes sense just to knock it out. On the other hand, the level of difficulty of the SE exam and the PE exam with the afternoon Structural is not really comparable.
