I am taking the test for the first time in October. I am still and school and don't plan on being able to much studying. Is it possible to take only the morning or afternoon test? If I take both and pass only 1 will I have to retake both?

There is only one test, not two. It's just divided into two parts so you can eat lunch in the middle.

So, it is possible to do really well on one and really poorly on the other and still pass?

hypothetically yes to a point, but still being in school is helpful as all the topics are fresh in your mind.

<--- took and passed the EIT during the fall semester of my Senior year.

I found that being in school was actually a big help because you can use the professors as resources to help study. Also IMO, the EIT exam is a "catch-all" exam covering what any ABET-accredited program covers. Consider it a final exam which applies to your degree instead of a single class. Most universities actually offer study sessions/classes for the EIT exam to current students and alumni.

Ditto.

Also I found that most of the material on the exam you have covered in recent course work, so studying for it shouldn't be as difficult as it would be if you've been out of school for a few years. A few years ago a friend, who had been out of school for years and years, was studying for the exam and would ask me for help from time to time. The material may as well have been in greek b/c I couldn't make any sense of it whatsoever.
