I have couple of questions for all PE Electrical members here at EB. I plan on taking the PE – power soon (most likely this coming October). I have been trying to find PE study material and was able to get some books. My questions are:

1. What book/resource would you recommend for studying Transmission and Distribution portion of the exam (which is approx 30 % of the test) ?

2. I have heard people raving about Chelapati Electrical power manual (vol 1). Is this book worth purchasing ? Would you recommend it ? is this book worth having in the future ?

Thank you for your input in advance.

Hello ymax102 and welcome to EB.com. As you can imagine, there have been numerous topics on the questions you posed. Below are a few links which may help answer your questions. A good reference to have for Transmission and Distribution is Power Systems Analysis by Grainger & Stevenson. There are a few others listed in the links below as well. One of the links below also discusses opinions on the Chelapati book. I purchased the book during my preparations for the Oct. 2010 exam. It is a useful reference and is also good for additional practice problems. Though the problems can be a bit more in depth than NCEES type problems.

Hope that helps! Also, you may find more answers to your electrical-specific questions in the "Electrical Prep" forum.
