Can i take PE exam depth option in a field that i do not have working experience on. My application has been accepted, but i am thinking of taking the HVAC section in which i do not have work experience rather than machine design in which i have experience. The reason being the job scope for HVAC field is greater here in California, Sacramento.

I'd take the depth option I'm more likely to pass.
I agree with above - take the one you are most likely to pass.

You can take which ever one you want - but I dont see why it would even make a differance in the job market.

A potential employer is going to look to see that you have a mechanical degree, have passed the PE and what areas you have experience.

Good luck

Tim

Yep, you can take any. Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Nuclear... In most states a PE is a PE is a PE. Some are specific for structural. Some are specific for all. Take whatever you know the best and can pass. I changed my mind twice when preparing. I knew about 50% of each of the electrical areas, and finally picked which one I felt I could study the best. My decision was also based on what review class was offered, what sample material was available and other factors.
