This is the preliminary info on the ONLINE PE (Civil) review course to be given in the summer/fall of 2010:
Dr. Indranil Goswami, P.E., author of the book "All in One Civil Engineering PE: Breadth and Depth Exam Guide" (McGraw Hill Professional, June 2009) has been teaching a review course for the Principles and Practice of Civil Engineering (PE-CIVIL) for the past 9 years in a classroom oriented setting. To date, his review course boasts a pass rate significantly higher than the national average.
Starting in February 2010, the classroom course was converted to an online (BUT LIVE) format in the form of webinars. The overall experience was very favorable from the instructor’s and the students’ point of view. The course is structured as two 3-hour meetings each week over a 10 week period. The total contact time for the course will be 60 hours. A preliminary 1-hour meeting (before the start date) will familiarize attendees with the webinar format. The review class for the October 30, 2010 exam will start August 17th and end October 21st. Classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM (EDT)
The course is well balanced, paying approximately equal weight to all 5 subdisciplines within civil engineering. Each 3-hour module will be divided into three hour-long modules. Each hour will contain approximately 50 minutes of instructor guided instruction/problem solving and about 10 minutes to address questions.
On the very last day of the course, students will be sent a full (8-hour) practice test. Solutions will be sent out after a reasonable interval (2-3 days) during which course attendees have had an opportunity to take the test. Between the end of the course and the PE exam, students may contact the instructor with questions.
