Are any of you expecting this subject (Chapter 22 in the MERM) to be on the PE exam?

I never did anything with this in my mechanical engineering undergraduate work. Perhaps it was covered in chemical engineering? I am reviewing it and the material seems relatively straight forward but things like flue gas temperature and volume is a little bit tricky.

Curious what other people are expecting.

I've recently studied this chapter in MERM and thought it was pretty sraightforward too. Same as you, I never covered this kind of material in my undergrad.

I don't know if I would expect a ton on this topic on the exam, but like every topic I want to make sure I'm prepared for anything and everything so I did every problem.

Same here. It was never covered in school. But it was the first subject discussed in the review course I'm taking. Don't know if that's a good thing or bad thing.

As I recall it did not come up when I took the test (april '07)...

Probably one of those things where every so often there is one question on the topic, and it can be an easy piont if you took the time to study the chapter... but in all likelyhood, it will not come up.

But who knows... I have been wrong twice before (one of them I thought I was wrong, but really I was right, so I was just wrong about being wrong).

I just worked the problems from Ch 27 and there was alot of Ch 22 information that was required, so based on that I would say it would be prudent to study Ch 22 as hard as any other chapter, if not more so since its unfamiliar.

I can remember learning a good bit of this stuff in the second semester of thermo in my ME undergraduate studies. It carried over into several of the upper level undergrad electives I took within the thermal and fluid sciences area of concentration, such as IC engines, and power plant design. My suggestion for anyone taking the thermal/fluid sciences afternoon depth is to pay attention to this chapter, as combustion equations have a real possibility of showing up on the exam.
