Is there any specific reference/book that was disallowed during the California PE exam?

I read comments about some books diallowed in other states but not sure if it applies to CA.

It has been quite a while since I took the test in California. At that time you could bring in any books you wanted as long as they were bound. Looking on the NCEES website it appears the same rules apply.

I brought a book with a blue cover called “PE (Electrical) License Review Manual” by Chelapati. It was probably the most useful book I brought. I suggest you only bring in three or four books max. Most the the solutions will be in your head and the books only really provide a reminder when your brain needs a push. Good luck.

Thanks pgm44. I expect to take 3 books in addition to the NEC handbook.

the reason for my question is that few states disallows sample questions/solutions books. I hope CA is different.

I took a look at the California Board of Professional Engineers website and I dont see any restrictions for solutions manuals provided they are bound properly. You can always double check with the board to be safe but it looks like solutions books are clearly allowed to me, if they are bound. See the following links for details:

Board Rules for the Test: http://www.bpelsg.ca.gov/applicants/refs.shtml

NCEES rules (as referenced on the CA PE Board website in the first link above): http://ncees.org/exams/exam-day-policies/

Looks like the calculator restrictions are well defined. Make sure you bring a compliant calculator. You will need you calculator to pass the test.

I think that is only Illinois
