This just showed up in my USAJobs update, looks like the USGS is looking for a Civil Engineer in Columbus, Ohio.http://jobview.usajobs.gov/GetJob.aspx?JobID=89895523&aid=29716392-10810&WT.mc_n=125

Granted a GS-5 does not look very impressive, but unless you're a complete moron it shouldn't take too long to jump up a couple grades. One thing to pay attention to is the part where it says the potential promotion level is a GS-12 which, for Columbus, should start between $70k and go up close to $100k once you hit GS-12 Step 10.

jeb - are you a gov't employee now? If so, what are the tricks to USAjobs? My wife tried a few years back when I was stationed in DC and didnt get anything after waiting a few months. Our next move is to Japan so I'm hoping she'll be able to get something govt while we're there and have some better luck this time around.

I am...U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. I haven't used USAJobs in a while, I just still have the search set up so I get the notices about Engineering jobs when they pop up. The only trick I know is for USACE jobs, go to cpol.army.mil instead of USAJobs. They are listed on both, but CPOL is the official site.
