Tomorrow is the 40th anniversary of a huge snowstorm that smacked the deep south. We got 16" at our house.

I was six years old and had a ball sledding on a curved, ceramic coaed sheet of metal and a VW bug hood. I think we messed up a cookie sheet or two as well.

Our bug got stuck in a field and we had to walk a quarter mile home. Well, my sister and I walked maybe halfway, then dad had to do relay trips to get us back home. A tractor had to pull the bug home. It was a big International Turbo tractor with dual wheels.

My grandmother broke her hip a few days before, and was in the hospital the whole time. A few days after the snow went away, my grandad (other side of the ffamily) came over to help dad with some electrical stuff. he started to feel bad and went home. Died of a heart attack that afternoon.

It was an intense week.
