Hi everyone, this is my first post.

I have EIT cert. I have worked for General Contractors for total of 9 years. But not worked on designing. Worked on constructionn management and estimating. mostly at the jobsites.

Even if I can find a recommendation from a PE from those companies, am I not eligible to take the exam? What if part of the firm did design work? Then am I eligible?

You can always just pay the $$ and see if you slip in too. I'm sure that especially with construction there is probably a grey area of acceptance.

I would be as specific as possible with regards to what engineering you've done (estimated areas, calculated volumes, wrote up proposals, etc.)

your state board has a list of activities that you should be performing at your job. You likely don't have to meet 100% of thsoe since they are wide spread.

Even when you don't design the entire building, you likely did parts of it. for example, if you are the one to allow a change int he field you kind of designed it. Let's say pump x was specified, and the contractor submitted pump Y. then you compared the pump curves etc. and accepted pump Y. this is design too. Not everyone is a number cruncher.

Ironically, when you make a fast career (which is good) you quickly do less actual design but are more involved in "big picture"decisions. which is design too.

your question deals with the experience portion of the application. Go online for your state and see what the experience requirements are. If you feel that you can complete an application that meets the requirements then do it and submit it. They will evaluate your application and either agree that you meet the requirements and let you sit for the exam or they will tell you what your lacking so you know what needs to be done to qualify.

I can't see anyone answering your question without you at least trying to complete an application and comparing your own assessment to the written qualifications. good luck.
