I have been using a AISC 3rd (LRFD) for the work. Do I need to purchase another 13th edition for the PE exam? Are there any significant changes between these two versions? Thanks!

The LRFD 3rd Edition is the latest edition. When you refer to the 13th Edition you are probably referring to the ASD manual. From what I've been reading you can use the LRFD 3rd OR the ASD 13th. You shouldn't need both.

The LRFD 3rd edition is not the latest edition. The 13th edition is the latest edition.

With that said, if you're not taking the PM structural I wouldn't bother and just use the 3rd edition. If you are, I'd buy it or beg someone to lend it to you.

From the AISC website:

"This edition is the thirteenth major update of the AISC Steel Construction Manual, which was first published in 1927. With this revision, the previously separate Allowable Stress Design and Load and Resistance Factor Design methods have been combined. Thus, this Manual replaces both the 9th Edition ASD Manual and the 3rd Edition LRFD Manual. Much of the HSS Connections Manual has also been incorporated and updated in the Steel Construction Manual."
