I know this post is a little old, but I recommend getting the Seismic Design Review Manual from Brightwood Engineering.  It's based on IBC 2009, so some codes are outdated so be careful (maybe there is a newer version out there now).  I went through this pretty thoroughly for the SE Lateral exam. I used the Structural Engineering Reference Manual from PPI pretty thoroughly as well.  There were my go to's to help me proceed through different material codes and such.  As i went through these two books, I read the relevant code sections, made notes in the codes, and added tabs.   Definitely recommend both of them!
