Hello all- seems like I am missing something simple or not interpreting something correctly. For a continuous duty, 3hp DC motor rated for 120V, what is the minimum size UF aluminum, insulated conductor required for operation at 60*C? The solution says #8AWG. However, when I am calculating it Table 430.247 FLC is 25A x 1.25 (continuous duty) = 31.25A. I always interpreted this as the conductor shall be not less than 31.25A, which would be #6 (40A Table 310.16). #8 is only 30A, why is this the solution? Thanks!

Nevermind- I was studying w/ my 2008 NEC and just realized some of the conductor ampacities were revised for 2011- #8 is 35A per 2011 NEC and is the correct answer. Will definitely be using the 2011 code book from now on.
