Definitely an eye-opening article. I have always known that many of the developing countries and even some developed countries are in thier infancy of regulating pollution and environmental controls/waste management. China has been in the limelight lately especially because they will be hosting the olympics next summer, so they have come under increasing pressure to make sure things are 'clean'.
This article points out that the chinese government ACKNOWLEDGES that more than 300 million chinese do not have access to safe drinking water. If one stops for a moment, you will realize that is approximately 1/6th of the entire population or put slightly differently a figure GREATER THAN the entire population of the US. And this is just the drinking water - not even any mention about the inhalation (air) pollution issues!
Scary stuff!
