I'm sure this question has been asked on this forum before, but i would appreciate if you guys can comment.

I got the Chalapati review manual for PE and I gave it a quick reading, my first impression is the questions are pretty basic, calculations used are pretty known but the thought process is different from what the regular text books emphasize. Is the real exam any where close to the problems in this review manual (I haven't gotten the NCEES manual yet, in the email, so curious)

I was able to follow most materials in the book, does anyone know if the course teaches more information than what is in the book? I'm debating if it is worth spending the extra $500 or so. In comparison, how would you guys rate the usefulness of te course for the PE power exam?

I have the manual...the manual is very old...it was basically probably useful for the old PE format...(1992 format)....couldnt use the book on the actual exam....I prefered GA Tech course. But i never took the chalapati course...i just bought the book on power.

I have the book and took the course. I am on the fence. I am out of school 4 years and I didn't actually study Power in college, I was more e-mag and electronics. When I graduated I just happened to fall into a Power job. Love it. That being said, I was nervous about the test and wanted to take a class because my background wasn't as strong. The courses taught by Allie Auld are by far the best. She did a really great job at explaining transformers, machines, and e-mag devices. All of her classes were great, but those were especially helpful. I felt like she hammered down the concepts behind those topics which is important because the test does have a lot of conceptual information. The others were taught by Dr. Feng, and while they were informative I felt they were mostly just reading out of the book. He was open to questions and would go into more explanation if asked. Its hard to compare the test questions to the book questions because the format is different but I will say that working out the problems was definitely helpful in preparing for the test. At the end of each class they work out the NCEES problems that are relevant to that week's topic. Also, as soon as you sign up for the classes you can access the online archives and get a head start on the classes. I coupled the class with my own studying on the weekends and during the week with spin-up, complex imaginary, and textbook questions. Overall I will say that some of the classes were helpful but not all of them. I passed on the first try so I will give some credit to the class, but I also studied a lot outside of class. Hope this helps!
