It sounds like he got the information mixed up - the pot of gold is at the END of the pipe. In all seriousness, you have to wonder what kind of money a kid thinks he is going to find in a 6-in pipe?? :dunno:

Ammonia leak leads to evacuations, closes schools near Tampa
RIVERVIEW, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities struggled to stem a leak from an ammonia pipeline Tuesday that forced the evacuation of more than 3,000 nearby homes, closed three areas schools and snarled rush-hour traffic.

A 16-year-old boy drilling into the 6-inch pipeline Monday night released a cloud of ammonia near the Alafia River south of Tampa that authorities were diluting with streams of water from fire hoses, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

The boy told deputies he drilled into the pipe, which carries liquid ammonia from a port to fertilizer plants to the east, because he heard there was money hidden inside. He was badly burned and taken to a hospital.

The sheriff's office said it may take another day or so to stop the leak because officials must wait until the pressure is reduced in the pipe to work on it. An expert was being flown from Houston to Tampa to work on it Tuesday.

Liquid ammonia, an ingredient in fertilizer that provides nitrogen to plants, vaporizes when it hits the air and can cause respiratory problems.

U.S. 301, a major north-south thoroughfare in the Tampa area, was closed, causing traffic snarls during the morning rush hour Tuesday.

Officials said the 16-year-old boy likely will face felony charges. Environmental damage, if any, was still being determined.

I'm betting he was making some drug. I think they use ammonia to make meth, don't they?

I'm sick and I got it right off. j/k

Of course, the county where I live is the meth lab capitol of SC, so I'm pummeled with meth info daily. Did you know a meth lab smells like cat piss?

Doesn't cat piss smell like ammonia?

Ammonia smells much better than cat piss. Having been through a kitty pee war a few years back, I can tell you that cat piss is far worse. It has some other lovely smelling things mixed with ammonia.

That is expains why people who would tend to have a meth lab like to keep lots of cats around. (My mother-in-law was busted along with her BF a few years ago with a meth lab, 100 trash bags of pot, tons of $$$, and 41 gms of coke.)

Something else to look for is lava lamps. If you ever see anyone buying those things in bulk, you know what they are planning. The temperature controller in the lava lamp is perfect for the meth production, and they have recipies depending on the lava lamp size.

Meth labs have become the scourge of rural florida and most recently some of the more urbanized areas (like apartment complexes). I posted in another thread about going through a training video that provided step by step instructions for two methods of synthesis so we could understand the various dangers as well as potential hazardous chemicals that could be present. I was shocked and horrified at how bad this stuff really is - even synthesis under 'controlled' conditions.

The problem is so bad in FL that we have a rapid response team for EACH county in Florida to respond to clandestine meth labs. :true:

PWN3D !!! :beerchug:
