So while we all wait ....

Wow that's pretty long. I thought California was bad. We won't need it until 2023. IBC 2021 will feed into the CBC 2022 which won't go into effect until Jan. 1st 2023. Like you I plan to wait until the last second to buy it and hopefully it will be on the 2nd or 3rd printing and most of the...

    SE Exam Oct 2019 Result

I think the level of difficulty is fine. They need to make the exam hard enough so that not just everyone who walks in passes. In theory it would be way more beneficial if NCEES gave more detailed feedback on what you did wrong. In practice though I don’t see how they would do that without...

    SE Exam Oct 2019 Result

Last year the scoring session was a week after Thanksgiving 11/29-12/1. Assuming it's the same this year then the grading will be 12/5-12/7. Results are typically released 7-10 days after the grading session so my money is on mid-December around 12/16.

    Taking SE Exam Early

I believe so but you would have to wait 3 years until you can get the CA SE license by comity. A lot of people get the PE license in CA because the wait isn’t as long as other states (2 years) and eventually get the license in their home state by comity when allowed.

    SE exam requirements

The requirements depend on the state you’re in. In CA you have to have had your PE for at least 3 years and have SE references.  I suggest taking a review course like PPI or EET if you’re serious. Other than that plan to spend an inordinate amount of time and money to get prepared.

    CERM and general advice needed

For the SE exam I would say bring every code referenced and make sure it's the correct edition. For the PE exam though I don't think that's necessary. When I took the exam I didn't bring the AASHTO at all and managed to pass. I relied heavily on the CERM for the referenced codes I didn't...

    CERM and general advice needed

You’re referring to the upgrade program. Just go to the website, fill out the form and mail in the front cover to get the 50% discount. Anyways I don’t know how big of a difference the 16th edition of the CERM is to the 14th edition but personally I wouldn’t take any chances. Better to just...

    April 2019 SE Results Thread

This may be true but this strategy is probably not something I'd do myself or recommend to others. I would imagine the probability of getting 100% on 3 problems is a lot lower than getting say 70% on all 4 problems.  This exam is so difficult that you're better off attempting all the problems...

    April 2019 SE Results Thread

A lot/majority of states don't recognize the SE license so technically anyone with a PE can practice structural engineering regardless of if it's in their field of practice. Basically anyone can put an 'SE' after their name but it doesn't mean anything to prospective clients. One of the main...
