    Salary Negotiation

Cheers Flyer! I have definitely put my time in with the extra hours these last four years! Sadly, one of my worries is that I won't fit into a company that doesnt expect me to work to death. I suppose as soon as I see "the light" I'll love it.

    Salary Negotiation

Are there "rules" that professionals should follow when negotiating their salary at a new company? I'm moving back home after getting my PE. I've got several offers of varying salary and benefit packages. If I counteroffer and a company meets my offer, am I obligated to accept their offer...

    Alaska Surveyor's Results

For what its worth I was just told that a friend of mine passed the National surveying licensing exam here in Alaska. He's still got the state exam next year before his PLS license. Its a different animal from the PE no doubt, just passing the info.

    Book Recommendation

I like "Basic Electricity: Revised Edition, Complete Course (Paperback)" by Van Valkenburgh. It was written a long time ago, but is a great introduction to the subject. The author does a great job of leaving mathematics out of the discussion. The illustrations are very useful too. Highly...

    Electronic release of scores

Notified the week before Christmas? I thought we were looking at 12 weeks which isn't until January 24th, right? Maybe my brain is fried from all the studying!!! Thanks, Brian

    Question Tackling Methods...

So I'm trying to plan how to tackle each question. From the boards it appears there are two theories on this: (1) Attempt each problem from first to last. (2) Sort problems by perceived level of difficulty, then answer from easiest to hardest. What do past test takers have to say on this...

    NCEES Questions 508, 509, 510

After taking a few days off of studying, I can't recall where, if anywhere at all, I have gotten practice with three phase circuits where loads are not balanced, or are connected between wye and delta systems. I know this sounds silly, but I don't recall touching on the types of questions from...

    Mock Test

How have your scores been when taking the NCEES sample test as if it was the real thing? I just took the test (after several months of studying) and only got a 47/80 = 59%. 22/40 in the morning and 25/40 in the afternoon power. This is upsetting. I'll keep working these final weeks but it...

    NEC Question - OCPD sizing

The 1.25 multiplier is used when loads are continous, but I can't find where this assumption is assumed in Section 220. Perhaps it is one of those overarching assumptions that are difficult to find in code, but is taken for granted??? Thanks.

    NEC Question - OCPD sizing

I just went through the "NEC Handout" from the "EE PE Materials" documentation provided elsewhere on this board. Example questions no. 1, 3, 7, 8 ask to calculate loads based on Table 220.12, Section 220.14 and Section 220.43 of the NEC. None of these portions of the code indicate to multiple...

    Ladder Logic, PLC Basics

I'm not looking for it for the exam, but rather for my understanding at work. Sometimes I've got to run through a contractor submittal that includes ladder logic drawings and I often get lost or confused with what the system is actually doing functionally.

    Ladder Logic, PLC Basics

Can anyone recommend good reference(s) for understanding the basics of ladder logic design? I don't want to delve into theory. Basically I need to get up to speed on how to "walk through" a typical ladder schematic, and how to design a basic ladder schematic using relay coils, relay N.O. &amp...

    Shunt Trip Circuit Breaker Application

Thanks for all the replies! I spoke with my manager and he is confident that the 120V, 20/1 breaker is supplying coil voltage to the 200/3 shunt trip as suggested by your replies. The coil is energized by the 20/1 circuit when the contacts from the fire pump controller close. Per NFPA 20...
