    PPI's SE exam Review Course

I'll add a bit more to my School of PE experience. Three total instructors, 1-excellent 1-good 1-okay. Mon-Thurs, 3 hours per night for 5 weeks. Fairly intense but kept me on track. A few technical problems but their crew is pretty on the ball so it wasn't overly distracting. Very little...

    PPI's SE exam Review Course

I took the School of PE course for the SE and thought it was a good value. The hours/dollar of instruction is quite good compared to other courses.

    Congrats! Been rootin' for ya!

    SE exam eligibiity

There are many states that allow you to sit for the SE without having a PE first or for a specific amount of time. I know in my state, MN, you can take the SE with the same experience as a PE. However, MN doesn't recognize an SE license as it treats it as a Structural PE. I know you can take it...

    Se exam results release date?

Tough to argue with that progress.

    Se exam results release date?

    Congrats! Don't party too hard.

    Se exam results release date?

That is a bummer; I've been there. However it looks like your AM improved from what I remember so you must be getting the building material down.

Why SE exam should be given instead of PE civil (Structural)?

The NCSEA site says they're working on it. It would be nice if they had it as I just got my PE there. http://www.ncsea.com/resources/licensure/

    Studying for PE Exam

PE is an order of magnitude easier than SE. You still have to respect the exam but otherwise it should be no problem for you. Like everyone else said, know Lindeburg well. I probably used it 98% of the time.

Recent reviews of SE prep courses

I took School of PE for lateral in the fall and passed. It was my third attempt. For me the class was necessary because I had failed twice and needed to change a variable to stay motivated. The class is intensive, but it should be. I've seen the other classes with significantly fewer hours and...

    ACI 314 Design Aids

I have heard of people using 314 and it being useful. Had I failed again I probably would have picked it up. That's the extent of what I know.

PPI's 16-Hour Structural Engineering (SE) Practice Exam for Buildings

I would say the questions you've provided are pretty close in content and difficulty. I think you could add more seismic related steel design that pertains to the nuances in the provisions that end up being important, like expected yield strengths, protected zones, collector amplifiers etc. I...

October 2014 SE Test - Results

Sweet mother I finally passed! Lateral took me three shots but I'm better for it. I've been saving a Imperial Russian Stout bomber just for this occasion, bottoms up!

October 2014 SE Test - Results

I think it's more fair to say your strategy was to have 15 years of practical expereince. Good work.

Take one exam or both at the same time?

TME has some good insight. I think the decision should primarily be based on the experience you have. If you are a 10+ year engineer in a SDC D designing steel and concrete several stories high on a daily basis, you'll be an a really solid position and should likely go for both. If you've been...

October 2014 SE Test - How did it go?

No they don't give you a breakdown for the PM, only whether it was acceptable, needs improvement or unacceptable as you already know. My observations are based on which answers of mine were considered acceptable over several attempts. For example, I've gotten acceptable results on problems I...

October 2014 SE Test - How did it go?

One thing I have learned is that completing each problem, calculations and all, is not necessarily a good gauge of your competency, for PM. The afternoon questions do not explicitly give you a heads up about everything you need to cover and recognize. You can easily go through each problem...

October 2014 SE Test - How did it go?

I think the level of difficulty from the last three laterals were pretty consistent; they progressively felt better to me because of my improvements, I believe. Had I had this exam my first go I think I would have been equally lost.

October 2014 SE Test - How did it go?

I took lateral for the third time (passed vertical a while ago). This was my best performance thus far. Finished AM with a lot of time left, only a couple questions I wasn't sure on. PM for me, although still intense, I felt confident on. I caught the little (but important) nuances they sprinkle...

What state are you waiting for?

That is close to what I got my first attempt, except 28/40 AM, same PM. It's frustrating to know that you've passed the individual parts just not at once. I really wish they gave you some comments. I understand why they can't give you the answers but how can you improve your PM technique without...
