NCEES Sample Exam, Lateral AM, Problem 125 (Pg 160 & Pg 211)

Thanks TheBigGuy; without even looking at the code provisions, it makes total sense why i would design for 217k (brace expected yield, i.e. the mechanism) and not the 71k (static response under seismic loads) as you don't want the connection to fracture or fail before the "mechanism" of the SCBF...

NCEES Sample Exam, Lateral AM, Problem 125 (Pg 160 & Pg 211)

Can someone explain why the answer is (D) 217k? Is the assumption that the 71K is not the maximum force that can be transferred to the SCBF, even though the Output table gives 71K as a snapshot Axial Force? Thank you in advance!

Rolling cart for all the books and codes recommendation

In addition to whatever roll-cart I chose at the time, I made sure to make a "layout" sheet & taped it to the box lid so I always knew which book went where & to make sure I had everything before I left (think of it as a "plan" view looking at the bindings as you plop these into your...

    ρ vs Ωo

Zaid: This topic was always one of the trickiest for me. With respect to ASCE, i would first observe sections 12.4.2.3 when speaking of rho; for these strength design load combinations, rho is ALWAYS included; the question is whether it is 1.0 or bigger. WHether it is 1.0 or greater is then...

    Load Percentage

Are these sketches of plan views or elevation views? What are the loads/load-path? I'm having trouble visualizing your Free-Body-Diagram (if these are intending to be FBDs).

    Beam Strength

I agree with Mithrandir if the question is more based on beam stability; the steel plate will surely increase the effective width & increase r,y. The last time I heard the term "dimensionally stable" was in my old Materials Lab Class in college; this is from memory, but I thought that...

    Illinois SE Wall Certiticate

Trying to get an answer on this one now that it is 2017; does anyone have info on the original andrewd question above? Specifically asking for the Illinois SE certificate and not the PE certificate.

Issue of License After Test results

Poopnerd: Perhaps you aren't seeing your Illinois stats on IDFPR yet as they may still be processing today/tomorrow or this week. I just saw my SE license Tuesday around 4pm. I was already preapproved to sit for the 16hr exam by the IL SE board several years ago, and so long as my Experience and...

Issue of License After Test results

If you passed in Illinois, you should be able to look up your license number now on IDFPR's website, then take that number and go to the eLicense tool to print your 5x7 license.

    SE Results are Out

For all those who didn't get acceptable results, hang in there...For the Illinois test takers, I have made this summary of past result-release milestones; I would guess Illinois would get their results by mid-week next week (as you can tell by the amount of data, I've been studying-for/taking...

    ASCE 7-10, Fig 26.8-1 & vs K,h vs. "h"

For wind analysis cases where a building is on an Escarpment or 2D ridge, can someone explain why K,z and K,h are not with respect to the base of the escarpment as opposed to the base of the building? Just did a PM problem on the Schuster 3rd Edition Lateral Depth (Problem 2), and I used h =...

Problem 86 Seismic Design of Building Structures Lindeburg 8th

To clarify, This question is in regards to the 11th edition of the SDBS (not 8th)

Problem 86 Seismic Design of Building Structures Lindeburg 8th

In question 86(b) for the "East-west earthquake," why doesn't the solution consider the participating weight of he 25ft portion of wall between points A1 and A2? This wall is perpendicular to the direction of earthquake and I would imagine it would be similar to the "North-South" and how they...

    2016 April Results released

WGodfrey: Registering for the exam thru Continental Testing Services (CTS) was a requirement in order to sit for the exam in Illinois. As far as Fall vs Spring, historically, Illinois has proven to turn around the results faster in the Fall in comparison to the Spring (by as much as 2 weeks...

    2016 April Results released

WGodfrey: I would expect Illinois would post their results to CTS no earlier than Wednesday 6/15/16. Illinois' SE Licensing board always holds a meeting to discuss what I believe would be the NCEES grades before releasing them to CTS or giving NCEES permission to update it on their server...

    Spring 2016 grading date

Gleitz you made me spit out my coffee! More fuel (I have been meaning to make this into an Excel sheet in hopes others would add to it). Note this only pertains to Illinois (where their IL SE board requires handling/distribution after NCEES "grades" it) ...and my fractions are in #/7 to...

    Spring 2016 grading date

NCEES released their June 2016 "Licensure Exchange" Newsletter & the Clemson SE Scoring Workshop is scheduled for 6/2-6/4 2016 (this current weekend). By my experience from taking the test in IL, I bet IL April '16 examinees get their results the week of 6/13/16

    Let the nervous countdown begin

Passed vertical & failed lateral in April 2013. This time failed lateral the second time. All for buildings. I got a diagnostic for the PM, but no diagnostic for the AM in the snail mail today... Essay are kicking my butt...I improved in the lateral essays since April, but its tough...

    Let the nervous countdown begin

@tziegler just logged onto the ncees website account & it has changed...I now see my results from the last SE attempts (before, ncees didn't show this)...still, on the CTS and ncees website, no Illinois results posted yet for October 2013
