Very shocked. I thought I failed. Test was very hard, imo.

Somebody please help me understand NCEES 522

I am absolutely dying on this one. Why is the phasor V = (jXs)(Is) + Ei and not V = Ei - (jXs)(Is)? I flat can't figure this one out. BTW, if anyone wants to make some money, you should sell a book with solutions to the NCEES practice exam that you can actually understand.

Complex Imaginary volumn 2 question 3

"There is a 16KV circuit with a load of 227 <31 degrees ohms. An electrician has been instructed to create a transformer so that the reflected impedance of the load mentioned is 100 <31 degrees ohms. What is the turns ratio that is required?" Ok. The way you actually do this problem is...

I need some help with NCEES #513.

It's a 12KV fault 20 miles down line from the substation transformer. Distribution line has a Z of j.145 ohms per 1000'. Sub transformer is 7.5MVA with 7.5% impedance. Wants to know the fault current. After looking in the back of the book, I'm confused. Did they arbitrarily pick 100 MVA as...

    NCEES #131

3 phase capacitor rated at 240V and 110 kvar is operated at 3 phase 208V. What reactive power provided at will be most nearly? Ok, the answer is kvar = (208V/240V)^2 * 110kvar = 82.6 I see what they did. It makes good sense, but where is this relationship come from? I know I have seen...

Question about arresters on Delta power lines...

distribution or lower voltage transmission. I know High Voltage transmission uses grounded static wires as a shield, but what about lower voltage classes? I would assume you would use properly rated lightning arresters. I guess they would need to be rated for the higher voltage since it is...

    Example 49.4 in PRM...

It's probably very simple, but I'm not understanding the solution in the book. First, why are they using 1/2 a sphere area? I'm guessing because it says it is "radiating hemispherically" and the ground cuts the sphere in half? Normally would you not just use equation 49.29 if it did not...

What is "reliability" on the power exam outline

section I, sub B part 2. That could be a lot of things. What are they talking about?

Has anyone indexed the NCEES sample questions

and solutions for the power exam? I would like to work the appropriate problems in the book as I finish studying particular topics. I figure no reason to take the time to do it if some of you have already done it. TIA

    Hello, all.

I got my BSEE 8 1/2 years ago, but I just took my FE in April. I'm now taking the PE in October. It will be the Electrical Power exam. TIA for any and all help. David
