    Side Work

I have a couple questions about working on the side. I currently work for an electric utility and have been there two years. Prior to this job, I worked for an electrical only consulting firm for four years doing design on new and existing water/wastewater facilities, retail, small industrial...

Suggestions for starting your own consulting firm

When y'all went out on your own, what did you do about cad blocks, specs, notes and all that stuff? Did you use the same stuff that you used at your old employer?

    Voltage Drop

You are probably correct. I was trying to use what I had though. I guess I could try giving them a call. Our xfmrs are bought through purchasing and it seems like it would be easy to have them request that info every time we receive a test report but there may be a lot of hoops to jump through...

    Voltage Drop

Thanks for the reply. What about the start up or cold load voltage drop? Say I had a 10hp motor which is approx 10kVA. At start up assume 50kVA. So it would just be .04x208? Does anyone know a way to get x and r data from core and load losses? We get %z and loss data but that's it. Thanks.

    Voltage Drop

Man I hate that if I don't work problems for a while I have a hard time with the most trivial things. Use it or lose it. I have been working for a utility for a while and I came from the consulting world. We calculate voltage drop for services and here are my questions: We try to keep our...

    Masters in Engineering Management

That's kind of what I thought about a MBA program. It would have more classes that I wouldn't use. I am an electrical engineer and work for a utility now. I think that I will either be with a utility or in consulting for the rest of my working days. I worked at a small firm for for years and...

    Masters in Engineering Management

Thanks for the reply. Maybe it will become more known over the next couple years. I am really leaning towards starting. I like that it's slightly different than a traditional MBA and it seems valuable to me.

    Masters in Engineering Management

Considering applying for this program at David Lipscomb in Nashville. They just started it this past fall. I work for a utility and would like to make myself more competitive for management jobs in the future. I have been looking at this vs MBA. I just wanted to see if anyone was enrolled or...

    TN October 2012 PE results

I'm in Fairview and will hopefully have the results today. This wait has killed me. It was my second time and hopefully last. Man I need to see a pass on that letter. Does anyone know when the new PE's will show up under "verify a license" on the state's website?

    TN October 2012 PE results

Who did you email? Is there a general board address or someone specific. Just curious. I am in Nashville so it won't take too long once it's in the mail.

    Results Out?

I think the way it worked in April in TN was that NCEES posted that they released the results to each state board. The next day TN posted that they recieved them and would have them mailed by a certain date. I didnt see any info on NCEES about them releasing the FE results but apparently they...

    Spin Up #2-15

I think this should be easy but for some reason I can't remember how to do this. Generator A has a capacity of 3MVA with an impedance of 3%, generator B has a capacity of 4MVA with an impedance of 2%. Gen A&B are syncronized and operating in parallel. What is the max load Gen B can handle...

    NCEES Power problem 104

The 60 deg should be used for circuits rated at 100A or less so yes to your first question and yes to your second question.

    Study Budy

I work in Nashville and am taking the April exam. I have started but my efforts are minimal so far but will turn it up soon. Where do you guys work? It sure would be nice to have an in classroom type review course in Nashville. Good Luck.
